About This App
FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories is a free iOS app designed to help children develop healthy bedtime routines through gentle Bible stories and relaxing audio. We are committed to protecting children's privacy and comply fully with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We operate no servers and never receive any data about you or your child.
Our Privacy Promise
- Nothing Is Sent to Us — We have no servers, no accounts, and no way to receive your data
- No Tracking — We don't track your child's activity or behavior
- No Analytics — We don't collect analytics or usage data
- No Ads — The app is completely ad-free
- No Data Sales — We have nothing to sell or share, ever
Information Collection
We — the developer — collect zero personal information. Nothing the app stores is ever transmitted to us. Specifically, we never receive:
- Names, email addresses, or phone numbers
- Birth dates or age information
- Device identifiers or IP addresses
- Location data
- Usage analytics or behavior tracking
- Device photos, contacts, or other personal data
- Information about which stories are read or how long they're used
- Voice recordings of any kind
Data Stored on Your Device (and Your Own iCloud)
To make the app work, some information is stored on your device only:
- Child Profiles — If you choose to set up profiles, the first names or nicknames you enter. These are optional; the app works without them.
- Reading Progress & Rewards — Stories completed, streaks, stars, collectibles, and journey progress
- Favorites — Saved favorite stories for quick access
- App Settings — Preferences like sleep timer duration, text size, and bedtime mode
- Parent Voice Recordings — Optional narration a parent records (see Microphone below). Stored only in the app's local files, never synced or uploaded.
If iCloud is enabled on your device, profile names, favorites, progress, and rewards also sync through your own iCloud account so a new device can restore them. That data rides Apple's iCloud under your Apple ID and Apple's privacy policy — it is never visible to us. You can turn iCloud off for this app at any time in iOS Settings. Voice recordings never sync.
Microphone (Parent Voice)
The app asks for microphone permission only if a parent chooses to record their own narration for a story. Recording happens only while the parent holds the record screen open, the audio file is saved only on your device, and it can be deleted in the app at any time. Recordings are never uploaded, synced, analyzed, or shared by the app. You can revoke microphone permission whenever you like in iOS Settings, and the rest of the app works normally without it.
Photos (Night Sky Pictures)
If your child taps the camera in Lumi's Night Sky, the app asks for add-only access to your photo library and saves the picture they created straight to your Photos. The app can never see, read, or browse your existing photos — add-only permission allows saving and nothing else. You can revoke it anytime in iOS Settings.
Notifications
If you enable bedtime reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device. No notification data leaves your device, and you can disable them at any time in the app or in iOS Settings.
No Account or Sign-Up Required
FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories requires no account creation, no sign-up, and no login credentials. The app works completely offline and doesn't need an internet connection for its core functionality. Download the app, open it, and start enjoying Bible stories immediately.
Audio Content
All audio files (Bible stories and background sounds) are bundled with the app during installation. They are stored locally on your device and do not require downloading from the internet. This ensures fast loading, reliability, and complete privacy.
Children's Privacy Protection (COPPA)
FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories is designed for children and complies with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). We understand that children's privacy is extremely important to parents. Here's how we protect it:
- No Personal Data: We never collect any personal information from or about children
- No Behavioral Tracking: We do not monitor, track, or record how children use the app
- No Marketing: We do not use any information for marketing or advertising purposes
- No Third-Party Sharing: Because we collect no data, there is nothing to share with third parties
- Parental Control: Profiles, recordings, and optional features are set up and controlled by parents, and parents can review or delete everything on the device at any time
- Parental Supervision: While the app is child-friendly and doesn't require monitoring, we recommend parental guidance as part of healthy device use practices
Parents' COPPA rights: because no data ever reaches us, there is nothing for us to provide, correct, or delete on our side. To review or delete everything, use the app's own screens or delete the app (and, if you enabled iCloud sync, remove the app's iCloud data in iOS Settings). If you have any question or concern, email us and we will help promptly.
Third-Party Services
FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories contains no third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking:
- No analytics platforms (Google Analytics, Amplitude, Mixpanel, etc.)
- No advertising networks (Google AdMob, Facebook Ads, etc.)
- No tracking libraries or SDKs (Facebook SDK, etc.)
- No social media integrations
- No crash reporting services
The only services that can ever touch app data are ones you control:
- Apple iCloud — optional sync of progress through your own Apple ID, governed by Apple's privacy policy. We never see it.
- Optional ElevenLabs narration — off by default. Only if a parent creates their own ElevenLabs account and enters their own API key in Settings, story text (never personal information, never audio of your family) is sent to ElevenLabs to generate narration. That use is governed by ElevenLabs' own privacy policy, and removing the key in Settings stops it entirely. Most families never use this feature.
- Your mail app and share sheet — sending feedback or sharing a story postcard opens Apple's standard mail or share interface, and nothing is sent unless you hit send. Feedback emails are parent-initiated and include only your message plus the app and iOS version numbers.
Security
Your device's security settings protect any data stored locally in the app. We recommend:
- Keeping your iOS device updated with the latest security patches
- Using a device passcode or Face ID/Touch ID to protect your device
- Regularly reviewing app permissions on your device settings
Your Control
You have complete control over the app and your data:
- All stored data (profiles, favorites, progress, settings, recordings) is deleted when you uninstall the app
- You can clear the app's data at any time through iOS Settings > FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories > Delete App
- You can delete individual voice recordings inside the app, and disable the microphone permission in iOS Settings at any time
- iCloud sync follows your device's iCloud settings — turn it off for this app whenever you like, and remove synced data through iOS Settings > [your name] > iCloud
Your Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA, and Similar Laws)
Privacy laws around the world give you rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data a company holds about you, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. Because FireFly: Bible Bedtime Stories never receives any personal data, we hold nothing about you or your child to access, correct, delete, sell, or share. Every piece of app data lives on your own device and your own iCloud account, where you control it directly. We do not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act or any similar law, and we have no data to disclose for any category of recipient. If you contact us by email, we use your message only to respond and delete it in the normal course.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. When we make material changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy. We recommend checking this page periodically to stay informed about how we protect your child's privacy.
